Slam poetry is building a dream world
Busisiwe Mahlangu is a writer, performer and language activist born in Mamelodi, Pretoria (South Africa). She is currently studying for a BA in Creative Writing at the University of South Africa (UNISA) majoring in African Languages and Linguistics.
She had a privilege of sharing her poems around South Africa including; Current State of Poetry (2016), Vavasati International Women's Festival (2016), Naked Word Festival and Open Book Festival in Cape Town (2017), and Lead SA Changemakers Conference 2017.
In May 2016 Busisiwe was part of the cast of ‘When Poetry Hits The Fan' directed by Bobby Gordon. She is the current Champion of the Tshwane Speak Out Loud 2016/2017, winner of Library Week Poetry Competition (hosted by National Library) in 2017 and Another Kind of Slam (hosted by Mzansi Poetry Academy) in 2017. Her poetry is published in Naane Le Moya, Ja Magazine, Sol Plaatje European Poetry Anthology volume 7 and forthcoming in Kalahari Review.
