Contemporary dance as a form of radical healing
Kemelo is a final year student at the University of Pretoria contemporary and jazz dance and Pilates teacher. She is training and aspires to study a Master’s Degree in dance practice and/anthropology in Europe next year, or in the near future. She is currently working on presenting a dance work for the Kopanang student arts festival on the journey of the self while being mentally ill.
Ideas Worth Spreading
An exploration of an alternative method of therapy for mental illness through the combination of an expressive contemporary dance performance and a discussion on mental health and the possible benefits movement therapy can have for us. Kemelo will share her personal story of how dance and movement can be used in the healing process of depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and other mental illnesses.
