Pieter is the principal of Mathews and Associates Architects, a multi-award winning firm in Pretoria South Africa. He was an alumnus of the University of Pretoria and did his practical year out in London after which he travelled the globe. He served as President of the Pretoria Institute for Architecture in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, the Andrew W Mellon foundation invited him as part of a UP study tour to New York and surroundings to study gallery and museum typologies. He regularly acts as external examiner at various South African Architecture schools. Pieter has published two successful books on architecture theory; Architexture and Detail Housed. He was the founder of Cool Capital, the World's first and only un-curated DIY Guerrilla Biennale in 2014, which led to him being appointed as the curator for the official South African Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.
